Making patients aware of Care Data extraction

Our practice aim to make patients aware of the new form of data extraction before it begins and what they should do if they have any concerns or objections.

Under the Health and Social Care Act 2012, NHS England has the power to direct the HSCIC to collect information from all providers of NHS care. The General Practice Extraction Service (GPES) will be used to extract GP data each month.

You have the right to prevent confidential information about you from being shared or used for any purpose other than providing your care. If you do not want information that identifies you to be shared outside your GP practice, please visit your surgery to make a note of your request in your medical record.

If you are happy for your information to be shared you do not need to do anything. There is no form to fill in and nothing to sign and you can change your mind at any time.

You can also get further information from the following websites at www.hscic.gov.uk and www.nhs.uk/caredata

Practice History

We practise from a large converted Victorian house originally built by Dr Bodley-Scott, Mayor of Bournemouth, in the 1860s. The house continued to be used by the Bodley-Scott family for medical practice until 1920. The property then became a dental practice until 1986 when the medical practice took over ownership of the building. The dental practice continues today on the ground floor. Famous previous patients include Robert Louis Stevenson. Our new extension was completed in 2010 to widen the range of services we offer and to modernise the practice.

CCTV

For the protection of patients, their belongings and the staff, closed circuit television is in constant use throughout the building.

Violent & Abusive Patients

This practice supports the government's NHS zero tolerance zone campaign. Violence and abuse is a growing concern. GPs and their staff have the right to care for others without fear of being attacked or abused. Violent patients will be reported to the police and struck off the GP's list. We ask that you treat your GP and practice staff courteously.

Disabled Access

Facilities are provided for people with disabilities.
